Book Description: Grizzly bear shifter Grant Waters wants one woman–Curvy Chelsea O’Reilly. He’s wanted her since they met. Except he’s worried his secret may be too much for her. It may be what sets her running.
Curvaceous Chelsea works at a salon in Bear Canyon Valley. She gets butterflies when Grant’s around. But she’s got her own baggage. Plus, she thinks that Grant would be better off with the local, stunning, curvy, widowed-way-too-early Mae Forester.
Captivation: I love a good paranormal romance, and the description of this book did interest me. The plot theory was interesting enough that I finished the book.
Sizzle: There was more dirty “thinking” than sizzle here. There was one scene that was semi-sizzling, but it wasn’t the best I’ve read. It’s a good book if you’re looking for a quick story, minor plot, and good, quick, sex scene.
Romance: The book advertised that it’s not just about the sex, there’s romance too. The character and romantic development is rushed and minimal. It felt more like the author wrote down some quick note ideas on how she wanted the plot to be, plopped those notes in a book and viola, there it is. I like a good short story, if there is a story to it, but this just didn’t have a good story. The supposed conflicts for each character disappeared without development. For some that are looking maybe for more of the just plain sexual aspect of a romance and don’t care about a story, this may do it for you.
Enjoyment: I liked the idea of the book more than the book itself. I’ll finish the series as I like to know how things end, but ultimately, I didn’t like this book much. It was rushed, under-developed, and left the mind wanting.
Literacy: Though I wasn’t impressed by the plot, the writing itself was pretty well done. I caught a few issues, but not much more than standard.
Overall, If you’re into quick sex scenes, mature-adult dirty talk (not a lot of swearing, which is a plus for me), and don’t care so much for plot or character development, this is a good book for you.
On the other hand, if you like to read romance for the true romance and story of a relationship along with the good sex, this isn’t the book.
For me, I like a good story, and though I’ll finish the series off, I won’t read it again. I’ve finished the next book and will review that along with the series itself when I finish. If the other books in the series follow this similar pattern of development, I will not continue to review them individually as I think this niche just isn’t my deal but I realize it is for other people and don’t want to influence anyone who may otherwise enjoy this.
